ABOUT ME

Hello! My name is Vania Christie Chandra or you can call me Vania for short. I was born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia and moved to the United States to continue my college education. I love cracking problems, puzzles, and mind-boggling riddles and hence, I choose Computer Science as my major because I think you get to do all those things. This major offers the challenges that I am passionate about and I love what I am currently doing.

Besides coding, I am involved in various social organizations. I have been positioned as an event organizer, secretary, and even public relation which is something new for me. I love being involved in group projects and doing collective collaboration. So far, I have helped in coordinating inter-school sports cup, annual christmas concert, and a year-end banquet for UCSD graduating seniors in my organization as my latest work. I would love to open my own business as an event organizer one day.

Some trivia about me: I love dancing (every kind!) and have been doing it since I was 5 years old. I love reading and The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared is one of my favorite books. Being a writer is my childhood dream and still is my dream job. I choose mountains over beaches because I enjoy hiking and snowboarding. I think that Love Actually and Cloud Atlas are the best movies ever.

I love talking to new people! Do not hesitate to contact me through my various social media accounts linked below. Feel free to discover more about me here!

Projects

Dip Wallet - Electronic Wallet

DIP Wallet is an application that is aimed to revolutionize Indonesia's money and reward saving system. When everything has been digitalized, our professional goal is to simplify people's lifestyle; being able to leave your wallet at home and bringing your digital wallet inside your phone through an app that we develop. Users will be able to store their credit cards and reward cards information digitally and retrieve it whenever needed. Working together with several retailers, users will be able to get reward points when they use DIP Wallet to purchase goods at partnered stores. Points can be redeemed as discounts for future purchases.

This application was on going throughout out my summer internship. The first prototype was to be tested on different types of Android phone. We used Android Studio for the mobile layout structure and Java as the main programming language. Photoshop was used to create and edit the application graphics and icons while user informations were stored in SQL database. The project is still active and is currently on the testing phase before being released to the public.

Hommi - House-searching website

Hommi is a website that is used for housing and housemate searching. The idea was first directed towards the needs of UCSD students for off-campus housing. Besides the usual filter features that users can use to search for their ideal housing environment, the website also offers housemate 'filter' that can help match users with their ideal housemate characteristics. One of our main goals is to help users to find the best housing and a perfect housemate to live with.

This website was developed over the summer course session together with five other teammates. We started looking for ideas and felt that this website will be a solution for many students' problems. We developed the persona and storyboards to see what kinds of problems we are trying to tackle with the creation of this website. We did the first draft of the website design with paper and pencil, then created the first prototype for user testing. After many inputs, comments, recommendations, and discussions, we revised our prototype and finally decided on our final design.

TBA - Textbook buying and selling app

TBA is a mobile application that can be used to buy and sell used textbooks. Students across the country will be able to post a listing to sell their textbooks. They can also look for books that they want and contact the owner to discuss the price and the way of delivery. Buyers get to choose which listing they would buy books from based on the book condition, price, and distance from the owner. This application is made by students and for students.

TBA was developed by a group of ten students over the course of ten weeks using Agile methodology. The application was made using Android Studio as the primary IDE. We linked the application with an active ISBN library so that we could cross-check the validity of the information entered by sellers. Parse is used to handle user account information. During the development, the team held a weekly presentation to monitor the project progress and has been refined through collective inputs and comments.
